The Wingate Scholarship 1998-2000 enabled me to study at Oxford and write a D.Phil thesis on Fuseli’s Milton Gallery, which was recommended for publication by the Oxford English Monograph Committee and is now out (Luisa Calè, Fuseli’s Milton Gallery: ‘Turning Readers into Spectators’. Oxford: Clarendon Press, 2006). Following that support I was also awarded an Arts Junior Research Fellowship at University College Oxford (2001-2004). I am currently a lecturer in the School of English and Humanities at Birkbeck, University of London. Thanks to the exciting interdisciplinary research environment of our Centre for Nineteenth-Century Studies, I collaborate with colleagues in other disciplines on projects that further my interest in reading and the adaptation of literature into series of pictures for exhibition, plays and various other visual environments and forms of spectacle. I teach modules on Romantic literature and Visual Culture, Exhibition Cultures and the narratives of museums.
