Website: Visit (opens in a new window)Researching, writing and illustrating my book, 'The English Parsonage in the Early Nineteenth Century' has been a complex project, involving lengthy trips across England and, most recently, correspondence with archivists as far away as California and New South Wales. It is entirely thanks to my Wingate Scholarship, awarded in 2003, that I have been able to complete the book which furthermore can now be accompanied by a full set of archival and new illustrations of the highest quality. It was published by Spire Books in association with English Heritage in spring 2008.
I came late to the profession of architectural historian, and the award of the scholarship has been particularly valuable in allowing me to develop a personal voice in an under-researched period of history. I am extremely grateful not only for the scholarship but also for the continuing, generous and friendly support of the Wingate Foundation itself.
