The Wingate Scholarship allowed me to complete my Oxford DPhil in 2001, and return to Israel as a Kreitman Post-Doctoral Fellow at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, where I am now lecturer in English and Comparative Literature at the Department of Foreign Literatures and Linguistics. The Holy Land in English Culture 1799-1917: Palestine and the Question of Orientalism, a monograph based on my dissertation, was published by Oxford University Press in 2005. I have also co-edited (with Nadia Valman) a collection of essays entitled 'The Jew' in Late-Victorian and Edwardian Culture: Between the East End and East Africa (forthcoming from Palgrave). My current research projects include a study of travel and disability in Victorian travel writing and a book about the representation of "Africa" in Zionist culture. In addition to my academic publications -- articles and chapters on Victorian literature, postcolonial theory, and Israeli culture -- I write regular theatre reviews for Ha'ir weekly in Tel-Aviv. Last but not least, I am the happy father of Tamar (7), Talya (5) and Ruth (1).
