My Wingate Scholarship funded a PhD on the Jewish Enlightenment, carried out at Cambridge University with a year spent at Harvard. My thesis looked at the interaction of the Jewish Enlightenment with the general Enlightenment particularly in the area of moral education. Following my PhD, I carried out postdoctoral research and taught at Harvard, and was for a time a visiting research fellow at University College London. Some of my research has been published, including in a volume entitled, ‘New Perspectives on the Haskalah’, published in 2004.

In 1998, I took up a career in law, first as a solicitor-advocate and then as a barrister. My areas of specialization include general commercial law, employment, public law, international arbitration and mediation. I obtained an LLM in 2006 from QMUL in International and Comparative Dispute Resolution. I continue to teach and am an adjunct lecturer at the London School of Jewish Studies.

Many thanks for contacting me.
I often think how important the Wingate Scholarship was to my early academic career.
