I received a Wingate scholarship in the late 1990s for the purposes of finishing a PhD at Cambridge University on the moral philosophies of Kierkegaard and Nietzsche. In 2006, the same PhD thesis was published, in slightly revised form, by Ashgate Press. Since finishing my Cambridge PhD, my interests have stayed within moral philosophy, although my work has shifted focus from the modern to the ancient period. Having spent seven years in the University of Toronto's ancient philosophy programme, In August 2007, I submitted a dissertation on Aristotle's ethics and in September I moved to the University of Leeds, to take up a one-year lecturing post in the philosophy department. I hope to pursue a career in philosophy lecturing and research following this appointment. Of course none of this would have been possible without the help of the Wingate scholarship almost a decade ago, for which I am extremely grateful.
