Since finishing my DPhil at St. Antony's College, Oxford University in 1992 (which was funded by the Wingate Scholarship), I worked as a Fellow at Institute of Development Studies (University. of Sussex) and later moved to Royal Holloway College (University of London) as Senior Lecturer in Development Geography. My DPhil research was published as a research monograph in 1995 entitled Community Participation and Slum Housing (Sage Publications). I continue to teach on development geography and research on issues related to communities in developing countries, with particular focus on low-income housing, gender, ageing, NGOs and the impact of globalisation and transnationalism. I continue to publish in academic journals, books and have recently edited two leading text books Companion to Development Studies (Hodder Arnold) and Doing Development Research (Sage Publications).
